Core principles
James How, Rotosound’s founder, revolutionised the acoustic guitar string with his world acclaimed piano string 
contact core design.

Originally released under the Superwound name ‘Country Gold’, these strings employ a wrap wire that stops short 
of the ball end so that a section of the core wire is exposed and only the core wire comes into contact with the 
saddle.

Piano string design
Inspired by the construction of piano strings, Rotosound’s James How designed and patented the ‘Superwound’ 
string in 1974. Described on their launch as having “unequalled hi-fidelity range, selective harmonic control, 
longer sustain and extreme power”, this design is a classic example of Rotosound’s innovation.

Tru Bronze Acoustic Light 11-52

An alternative to the 92/8 bronze Jumbo King series, crystal clear resonance would

Beyond the bronze age
One of the earliest copper based materials used for acoustic strings was the 80/20 
brass series from around the 1940s. It is commonly referred to as “yellow bronze”.
 
Comprised of 80% copper and 20% zinc, it offers a zingy bright top end with strong bass 
frequencies and a scooped mid-range."

Solo Bass 55 5-String Standard long Scale 45-130

The original pressure wound stainless steel bass string designed in the mid-1970s. Similar 
to Rotosound Swing Bass 66 strings but with a smoother feel.
Due to rolling, mass is retained and therefore its brightness. Our half wound Solo Bass 55 
strings eliminate finger noise, reduce fret wear, work well on fretless 
basses and excel in the studio.

Inspired by the penetrating tone of legends such as John Entwistle and Chris Squire, 
players worldwide have strung up their bass guitars with Swing Bass 66 strings.
The distinctive sound of our roundwound Swing Bass 66 strings have been used by the
